Singer blames error on a 'shaky rehearsal'
Adele has told reporters that she was “devastated” to have to restart her tribute to George Michael at the Grammys on Sunday night (February 12).
“I did have a shaky rehearsal today,” she told a press conference after the event, at which she scooped five major awards, “but I have been working very hard on this tribute for him, every day. George is one of our truest icons. I love him.”
The singer was a minute into her slow-burning rendition of Michael’s ‘Fastlove’ during the ceremony when she realized she was out of tune with the music and asked for the song to be restarted.
“I know it's live TV, but I'm sorry,” she told the audience, “I'm sorry for swearing. I'm sorry for starting again. Can we please start it again? I can't mess this up for him.”
Adele then completed the song to a standing ovation and respect form her peers on Twitter. Nicki Minaj Tweeted "She's so bossed up for starting over. Artists are usually way too afraid of the producers to do that on live TV. She put his legacy FIRST. I love her so much."
