Thurston Moore has announced details of a brand new, standalone single as well as a series of UK live dates. ‘Cease Fire’, is available from today.
A statement from the former Sonic Youth frontman reads that ‘Cease Fire’ is “an anti-gun song” and “is a response to the current unchecked climate of violence that besets many parts of the world, whether large scale in war, genocide and mass killings or individual senseless acts of bloodshed.”
He says: “Guns are designed to kill and we, as non-violent human beings, are against the killing of any person or animal. The song is also about the power of love, in all its freedom of choice. A power that no gun can extinguish as love will rule always. Melt down your guns and kiss your neighbour.”
The single was recorded in London last year and features the talents of My Bloody Valentine bassist Debbie Googe, Nøught guitarist James Sedwards and drummer Jem Doulton.
Elsewhere, The Thurston Moore Group – which features Googe, Sedwards and Sonic Youth/Sun Kil Moon drummer Steve Shelley – will play the following UK dates:
