The Killers premiered a new song called ‘Run For Cover’ when they played the Borgata in New Jersey’s Atlantic City as a warm-up for their upcoming run of festival shows in Europe and the United States. The band’s new single, ‘The Man’, which is expected to be released later this week, wasn’t played.
Though it made its debut on Saturday night, ‘Run For Cover’ is by no means a new song from The Killers. The track was originally intended for their 2008 album, Day & Age, but was held back because singer Brandon Flowers was unhappy with the lyrics. Singing “Saw Sonny Liston on the street last night/ Black fisted and strong singing ‘Redemption Song’/ He motioned me to the sky/ I heard heaven and thunder cry!/ Run cover/ While you can, baby, don’t look back”, we’re assuming that he’s happy with them now.
As previously reported on Gigwise, The Killers are set to appear as UK festival exclusives at a sold out show as part of the British Summer Time festival in Hyde Park on July 8. With the new track making its debut over the weekend, it’s a pretty good bet that more new material from hugely anticipated new album, their first since 2012’s Battle Born.
Joining the Las Vegas hitmakers in Hyde Park are Cold War Kids, British Sea Power, Mew, Mystery Jets, The Strypes and Alex Cameron. Elbow and 80s ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’ stars Tears For Fears will also feature as support.
