We’ve got a solution for fans of The Killers who are kicking themselves because they can’t get tickets for the band’s sold-out show at Hyde Park on July 8 – it’s called the Exit Festival in Serbia, it runs July 5 – 9, and it all works out cheaper than forking out to a tout.
It’s no exaggeration to say that the return of The Killers is one of the most anticipated returns in recent years. It’s been five – count ‘em – years since the release of their last album, Battle Born. Their new album, Wonderful Wonderful, is due for release later this year and features guest appearances from Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler, and Brian Eno, and has been produced by the guiding hand of Jacknife Lee who has previously worked with U2.

The Killers unveiled a new track from the album last week. ‘The Man’ finds the band fixing their gaze on the dancefloor with some chunky bass and monster beats and we reckon this is one that’ll send the crowds bandy when they play it this summer. And, as previously reported on Gigwise, the band also dropped a new track in the form of ‘Run For Cover’ that got its first airing in New Jersey’s Atlantic City.
But no tickets for London, huh? Then check this out: The Killers are headlining the Exit Festival at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, Serbia on July 5. Tickets for The Killers are priced at a mere £34.10 but hey, if you’re heading out all that way then you might as well as get a ticket for the whole thing which is priced at a very reasonable £119.90.
Also on the bill are – deep breath – Liam Gallagher, Years & Years, Jake Bugg, The Damned, Rag’N’Bone Man, Jamie Jones, Angelic Upstarts, White Christ and many, many more. And then you’ve got DJ sets from Jeff Mills, Paul Kalkbrenner, Solomun b2b Dixon, Duke Dumont, Nina Kraviz, Ellen Allien, Paula Temple & Rebekah, Recondite, Booka Shade and plenty of others besides.
The setting doesn’t get much better – forget the mud-splattered cow-fields of the UK this is a humongous fortress overlooking the extraordinary Danube river. Part of its appeal, too, is the extraordinary diversity on the line-up: heavy metal, dance, indie rock, punk, and pop are all well represented.
And as a mark of quality over the Exit Festival, previous acts to have played there include Arcade Fire, Pulp, Skrillex, Rudimental, Placebo, LCD Soundsystem and a whole lot more.
On top of that, there are regular flights to Belgrade with bus transfers from the airport to the festival. You’ll also get some of the most stunning views in Europe and once you’ve been you’ll be scratching your head wondering why you’ve been putting up with over-priced events that have more in common with endurance tests than something resembling a music event. And that’s before we go on to the delicious food, beers and wines that you’ll find in this part of the world.
Exit Festival runs July 5 – 9 at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, Serbia. Give it a go and you can thank us afterwards.
