Speaking to Gigwise earlier this year, frontman Samuel T. Herring spoke of the band’s rise in popularity and metamorphosis from cult concern to mainstream success.
He said: “[Success] didn’t really change our lives completely. It definitely changed the way that we tour because we had to adapt to the new size of the shows and things but luckily we were old enough, mature enough and doing this long enough that it didn’t affect our heads too much which is really good. That’s the fear in finding - I don’t want to say success - but kind of notoriety.
“Singles was our fourth record and we were 800 shows deep before it dropped and all of those kinds of things so we’d been working really hard and kind of already found our success as musicians before its release. It just became the breakout album to an even larger audience. It was awesome and what we wanted but also kind of surprising.”
