Nine Inch Nails have shared a new track from their forthcoming ADD VIOLENCE EP, the second part of a trilogy of releases that began with last Winter’s Not The Actual Events EP.
THIS ISN’T THE PLACE is the second song to be revealed from the new EP, and is a more sombre, understated follow up to the frenetic LESS THAN, boasting moody electronic atmospherics leaning almost towards trip-hop, and a sparse, cracked vocal from Reznor. Speaking last week, the singer hinted at the tracks on the record being a varied experience, telling Zane Lowe on Beats1 Radio: “this collection of five songs feels like brothers.
ADD VIOLENCE will be available digitally from July 21, with a vinyl and CD release due on September 1. The download also promises a ‘physical component’, though it’s unclear what exactly this represents. A mysterious statement accompanying the download on the band’s website says: “Proper use of this recording requires it to exist in the physical world, as real as you are. Choosing this package gets you the digital files and we will shop the accompanying physical component to your residence which may provide additional clarity. Very limited supplies available.”
The tracklisting of ADD VIOLENCE is as follows:

If Reznor stays true to his word, the third and final EP in the set is due for release in approximately six months. “I have no idea what the last part of this will be. I know lyrically where it goes, but I don’t know what it’s going to sound like yet,” said Reznor on Beats 1.
