One of last week's best releases was 'Blue Train Lines' and its creators, Mount Kimbie, have a video to it. You can watch it below on Gigwise.
The video is a highly original idea combining some niche knowledge ny being an ode to Ishi, the last known member of the Yahi tribe. This Yahi were hunter gatherers indigenous to Northern Califonia
Of the video Mount Kimbie say: “The Blue Train Lines video is a fictional re-creation of two Anthropologists (Robert. F. H and Theodora. K played by Raf. F and Tegen. W) who have been called in by the authorities to study a man they seem to believe is the last of the Yahi of California.
"Upon stumbling into civilisation in 1910 the man unknowingly became the life’s work and obsession of a pair of human scientists who housed and cared for him while they studied his every move.
"However, the story takes a turn when the pair fall out and one of them tries to sell all his belongings on eBay. Luckily, the buyer, who goes by the name 'Frank. L', acquires all of the wild man's things, only to reinvest them back into further studies in a tale exploring the lines between student, teacher, collaborator, scientist, historian and friend."
Ishi sadly died of Tuberculosis on 25 March 1916 in his room at the Phoebe Hearst Museum of Anthropology in San Francisco, California. Read a short story about Ishi here.
As for the track, reviewer Charlotte Hayne said: "It balances light and shade with skill, holding back and pulling you in a game of cat and mouse. The urgency is there from the opening, a white noise ‘who left the TV on?’ sound lies over the track opener and functions as a sonic version of a vintage Snapchat filter.
The track pushes you forward but manages to keep a modesty to the sound that is a trojan horse for Krule’s beating lyrics. Taken together, the effect is a fresh wash of cold ice that commands you to sit up and listen."
Mount Kimbie will release their third album, Love What Survives on 8 September via Warp Records.
