The National have shared the video for ‘Day I Die’ – the latest track to be released from their long-awaited seventh album, Sleep Well Beast, which is released on September 8.
‘Day I Die’ follows on the heels of ‘Guilty Party’ and ‘The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness’ and comes with a brilliantly intriguing video. Made up of over 5000 photographs taken at a Parisian rehearsal, the time-lapse video is a hypnotic feast that finds The National in a musically upbeat frame of mind that augers well for Sleep Well Beast.
Speaking of the video, director Casey Reas said: “Graham MacIndoe captured eighteen time-lapse photo series during rehearsals at Le Centquatre in June 2017 in Paris. Hours of rehearsal are compressed into a few minutes.
“Over five thousand of these photographs were brought together to make the final video. I wrote custom software to collage multiple photographs together and to compile them into videos. A flickering colour layer abstracted from broadcast television signals augments the black and white footage. The images here are played back at 12fps, near the threshold of the persistence of vision.”
The National are set to play shows in Cork, Dublin, Edinburgh and Manchester in September - along with and a four-night residency at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. They play:
