The South Londoner, who has taken over from the legendary Trevor Nelson on the 10am -1pm slot on 1Xtra, is especially adept to finding music that makes you have a good time as a fun life seems to be his core philosophy.
For the mix below, Ace has woven in snippets of American R&B and hip-hop staples with the best music inner city London has to offer; including, J-Hus, Mist, Giggs, Don E and WSTRN. It's a potent combination with the drums mixed to the forefront and deep sub bass worth cranking.
DJ Ace's inclusion of up-and-coming artists as well as global stars is indicative of his attitude towards the industry. The selector, who has been working at 1Xtra since 2002, has a genuine desire to make a difference to the lives of the artists he plays. It seems he recognises which area could do with some love and attention, and told the press now is his chance to champion UK R&B as he feels the rest of the scene is covered
Ace is well known to be ahead of the curve so his work now will undoubtedly be influential. After leaving school, Ace became a junior presenter on 1Xtra and can claim to be one of the first people to champion Dizzee Rascal and Skepta.
Most recently he played an important role in the success of J-Hus' Mercury nominated album 'Common Sense' by hosting a Live Lounge session with him well before any other major platform had given him the recognition.
DJ Ace grew up with his Ghanian born mother, who moved to London when she was seven. He told the Voice Online it was her taste for reggae, Motown, rare groove that helped nurture his love of music. The rich cultural benefit that living in an area of inner city London shaped by Afro Carribean diaspora, naturally influences what he plays, and he's an awesome portal into sonic fabric of one of the best parts of the UK.
DJ Ace may be only in his first year of hosting a national radio show but he's already become the first UK DJ to takeover a Spotify playlist. "I'm so happy to be the first DJ in the UK to take over a playlist on Spotify. This is the perfect playlist for me - I get to combine what I do on the radio and in the clubs," he said.
