A shiny new offering from Sheffield upstarts

Fresh from blistering through festival season this summer, Sheafs are ready to share their next taste of greatness, with an exclusive premiere here on Gigwise.

Delivering a short, sharp slice of sonic ammunition in the form of ‘This Is Not A Protest’, the five-piece are locked and loaded, ready to continue their musical assault. The snappy vocal cries of, “this is not a protest, the more you want yeah, the more you get less,” go hand in hand with a chorus of chants which makes the track a rallying call to arms for a disillusioned, youthful generation set against a formidable bassline and surging riffs.

Speaking about the song’s inception the band say, “it's a tongue-in-cheek reflection of the present that has been written to capture the frustration of deficiency in rock ‘n' roll icons, the music and the scene.”

The quintet also embarked on their first festival season this summer playing the likes of Isle of Wight Festival, Y Not? And Reading Festival. “Playing these festivals gave us the opportunity to play in front of a lot of people that haven't seen us live before and hopefully allowed us to win over a few new fans. Y Not? was probably the highlight, as that's a festival that we've all been to before, so to play there was huge for us. We got a stroke of luck and ended up doing two sets in the space of a couple of hours, with the latter being a set on the Quarry Stage in front of 2000 people. Massive moment for us all.”

And there’s plenty in the pipeline too for the Sheffield upstarts, “We've got a few city festivals coming up in the next couple of months; Neighbourhood in Manchester, 2Q in Lincoln and Kazoopa in Leeds. We're joining our mates Jordan Allen on a few dates of their tour and we're also supporting Cabbage at The Leadmill for Musicians Against Homelessness. Other than that, we're going to continue to writing new tracks to set us up for the new year.”
