Tributes pour out as his brother confirms the news

Grime trailblazer Major Ace has died. His family reports that the rapper – real name Luke Monero – had been battling with a brain tumour for almost three years. Major Ace was part of the UK garage crew Pay As U Go Cartel.

His brother Cass confirmed Monero’s passing via Instagram earlier today (October 9). He wrote: “My older brother Luke Monero/Major Ace/ Majorace Monero Demajor Ace Monero has sadly passed away early hours this morning… im in absolute pieces!

“He was suffering from a brain tumour for almost 3 years now… me and my mum looked after him every day and it was our pleasure.

“What a personality and soul he was! I honestly can’t handle any phone calls but msgs are OK… if u knew him or knew of him please share and let everyone know the sad news..

“I’m so proud of my big bro he achieved so much in his short life! Love u bro forever LEGEND IN THE GAME x”

Grime musicians Lethal Bizzle, Tinchy Stryder, Wretch 32 and Wiley among others have taken to social media to pay tribute.

Major Ace’s fellow Pay As U Go Cartel members included Wiley, Gods Gift, and DJ Slimzee Geeneus and DJ Wildfire. Their 2001 hit,‘Champagne Dance’, charted at Number 13.
