Underworld have been revealed as the Saturday night headliner of the Belfast leg of BBC Music’s The Biggest Weekend festival in May.

The multi-location festival will take over the second bank holiday and is the broadcaster’s most ambitious musical project to date.

The veteran ravers will be joined at the Titanic Slipways in Belfast on 26 May by Franz Ferdinand, First Aid Kit, Ash, Goldie, Little Dragon and Young Fathers. The previous day (25 May), will be headlined by Beck, with Orbital, Manic Street Preachers, The Breeders, Courtney Barnett and Public Service Broadcasting also on the line up.

Each of the broadcaster’s music stations will take over a geographical area where stages will be set up. To this end, Radio 1, 1Xtra and Asian Network will take over Singleton Park in Swansea, Wales for the weekend, where Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift will headline. Their respective sets will be preceded by Niall Horan, J Hus and James Bay.

Radio 2 and Radio 3 will host events in Scone Palace in Perth Scotland and the War Memorial in Coventry, England. Confirmed acts for Scone Palace include Noel Gallagher, Simple Minds, Amy MacDonald, the Beat starring Dave Wakeling and Julie Fowlis.

Nigel Kennedy and Paloma Faith will headline in Coventry and will be joined by UB40 featuring Ali, Astro and Mickey, Billy Ocean, Snow Patrol and Jamie Cullum.

Underworld and Beck’s headlining sets will be part of 6 Music’s takeover of the Titanic Slipways in Belfast.
