Ever been to a house party where things started to get a bit sketchy?

In the new video for Wolf Alice’s ‘Sadboy’, the latest single from the London combo’s second album Visions Of A Life, singer Ellie Rowsell gulps spirits from a bottle then catches herself throwing up black liquid into a plant pot.

Rough shindig, eh?

Everybody’s wearing scary masks, and reality begins to distort, has she been spiked we can only wonder.

Well maybe, maybe not, she’s already necking gin like a sailor at home in the first five seconds of the clip.

The point at which things really take a turn for the peculiar, about halfway through, is when she passes out and wakes up, we’re guessing in her own subconscious, floating in the inky blackness as the music winds down to a simple bass-snare rat-tat.

Otherworldly backing vocals presage ever more weirdness, glowing horror film eyes, a bloodcurdling scream.

Anyway, it’s boss, give it a watch.

In other Wolf Alice news, the group are off to the states for a couple of months, supporting no less than Queens of the Stone Age on a handful of dates, before returning to the UK to support a little-known act called Foo Fighters and no doubt smash it out of the park at festivals including Latitude, Reading & Leeds and TRNSMT.

If their recent live form is anything to go by those dates should not only cement their stranglehold over the British indie scene, but also open up a vast new fanbase across the pond.

Gigwise caught them live at Gorilla, Manchester just a fortnight ago and can confirm ‘… their fearless ability to experiment across genres and styles still makes them a band to be excited about, as their excellent comeback clearly continues.’
