Echo And The Bunnymen outraged fans this week when they cheekily tried to reschedule a big show, because it clashed with the Champions League Final.
The gig, at Birmingham's Symphony Hall, was scheduled for Saturday May 26 but nobody (literally, nobody) could have foreseen that the band’s beloved Liverpool FC would reach the final of The UEFA Champions League against Real Madrid on the same night.
“We’re really sorry but we are going to switch the Birmingham Symphony Hall show on Saturday 26th May. The show will move to Tuesday 29th May.” read a statement on Twitter
“Both our fans and Liverpool FC are very close to our hearts and after much reflection we decided we couldn’t play a show during the Champions League Final.”
Then they apparently thought they could draw a line under the tricky matter with a dash of humour:
“We asked UEFA to change the date of the match but they denied our request.”
We’re really sorry but we are going to switch the Birmingham Symphony Hall show on Saturday 26th May. The show will move to Tuesday 29th May all original tickets will be valid for the rescheduled show.

Both our fans... https://t.co/FgafwHw69h
Anyway, that went down like a shit sandwich:
Basically this translates as "Band blows off gig in front of 3000 paying customers in order to get drunk in the pub watching football"

If thats how much you value your fans, I'll never buy a Bunnymen ticket ever again.
Lots of very upset and out of pocket people on the facebook post, people flying from US, Sweden, Ireland, Spain etc...not good especially after the album pre orders were put back 6 months too after taking the money for them

The band eventually rowed back on the tweet, agreeing to play on the Saturday as planned.
We’ve decided to reverse our decision to change the show date following our fans reaction to last night’s announcement. Mac and Will are deeply upset about the situation and are really sorry for any unnecessary disappointment caused.

So Echo And The Bunnymen will be playing while Liverpool FC take on the Spanish giants.
This fan probably summed it up best:
bottled it.
