They even got their designers to change their graphic and everything

Truck Festival have got a right smart-arse for a Social Media Manager, haven’t they?

Following the most oxygen-depriving 2 hours of many of our lives on Tuesday night, England, the feckless football team with the bad juju actually won an actual penalty shoot-out, advancing to the actual Quarter Finals of the actual World Cup.

In the pandemonium that ensued, Truck responded with a well-chosen change of name on their Twitter page, opting to call themselves ‘Gareth Southgate Festival.’

Anyway, we got an exclusive quote from the smart Aleck’s at Truck about it, because if they’re going to do God’s work in order to gain press and attention, then we’ll damn well give it to them:

Truck Festival, why did you change your Twitter name?

“Dier’s penalty [the winning goal, FYI], lifted the nation, and we realised it was the only way a Small-to-Medium-family-friendly-indie festival in Oxford could pay tribute to our waistcoated saviour Sir Gareth…it definitely wasn’t because I was drunk, honest.”

And so this genius social media tactic came about. Didn’t change their actual handle though did they. You bet.

Anyway, here’s the bit they probably intended for us to do: Truck takes place at Hill Farm in Steventon on the 20-22nd July and has a pretty neat line-up of pop/indie heroes, including Gigwise faves Peace, Anteros and Stereo Honey, plus headliners George Ezra, Friendly Fires and Courteeners.

But, clever Social Media Wizard at Gareth Southgate Festival, is football coming home?

“It definitely is.”

You heard it here first.
