Nine Inch Nails have released a live video of their cover of Gary Numan’s ‘Metal’ – and to top it all, the vocals are provided by none other than Numan himself.
The footage was shot last month at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and it absolutely kicks out the jams. ‘Metal’ originally appeared on Gary Numan’s 1979 album, The Pleasure Principle, and here it’s brought kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
Shot in stark black and white, the sound is in glorious and pounding industrial tones that brilliantly display how much influence Numan has had on Trent Reznor - and quite the degree that the music of Nine Inch Nails has reinvigorated Gary Numan over the years. And just check out that growling bass!
Not that this is the first time Nine Inch Nails and Gary Numan have performed together. It’s now almost 10 years since electronic music pioneer Gary Numan joined Nine Inch Nails on stage in London for a thumping rendition of his 1979 No. 1 hit, ‘Cars’.
Gary Numan and Trent Reznor are clearly enjoying each other’s company. Numan performed with Nine Inch Nails in Montreux last weekend. Sharing pictures of the show, Numan said: “Thanks to Trent Reznor and the entire Nine Inch Nails team for making us so welcome.”
Nine Inch Nails recently made a UK double-whammy with gigs at Robert Smith’s Meltdown at the Southbank and their debut appearance at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London. They’re heading out on what promises to be the skullcrushing Cold And Black And Infinite tour with The Jesus And Mary Chain later this year.
Gary Numan is currently touring the UK.
