Foo Fighters have been forced to postpone two Canadian gigs after frontman Dave Grohl lost his voice.

The band, who are currently touring their ninth studio album Concrete And Gold, were set to play Rogers Place in Edmonton tonight (4 September) and Calgary’s excellently named Scotiabank Saddledone on Thursday (6 September). These will now take place on 22 and 23 October respectively.

Grohl lost his voice after playing Seattle’s Safeco Field on Saturday night (1 September).

Referring to U2 who, by a strange coincidence had to stop their Berlin show on Saturday night after Bono lost his voice five songs in, Dave Grohl quipped: “That’s the last time I ever make out with Bono!”

Foo Fighters will report for duty on Saturday night (8 September) when their tour resumes in Vancouver.

The band said in a statement: “Foo Fighters are, as always, grateful for understanding and support of their fans everywhere and look forward to seeing everyone in Edmonton and Calgary in October.”

Which is all a bit of a shame really. Saturday night’s gig saw Dave Grohl reuniting on Saturday with his former Nirvana colleague Krist Novoselic. The erstwhile Nirvana bassist took to the stage to join Foo Fighters for a dynamic run-through of The Vaselines’ ‘Molly’s Trip’ – a track frequently covered by Nirvana during their glory days of the early 1990s. A version of the track reached the wider public after its inclusion on the rarities compilation Incesticide.

Novoselic’s new band Giants In The Trees opened for Foo Fighters earlier in the evening. Joking on Twitter ahead of the gig, Novoselic said: “It has been my lifelong dream to meet Dan Grohl and Paul Smear.”
