Featuring the soulful vocals of Seinabo Sey, Jacob Banks’ new single ‘Be Good To Me’ is a minimalist yet powerful outpouring of feeling. If you’re in need of motivation to get you past Wednesday this might do the trick - there’s a gospel flavour to its stomp.
Never stopping for a moment’s pause, genre-bending songwriter Jacob Banks follows up a string of three critically acclaimed EPs with his huge debut album Village, set for release 2 November. This time, he’s back with some seismic names on board including Adele producer Paul Epworth and xSDTRK (Usher and Jennifer Lopez). This new single is hopefully a good indicator of what’s to come, and also, just how far he’s come.
As Banks told Gigwise back in January this year - an exclusive interview where he teased his debut album - his previous EP The Boy Who Cried Freedom was “Very honest. It’s more like a book of short poems.” The Nigerian-born Brit’s new album though is a little less introspective, in fact, it sounds bloody massive from the single alone.
Besides having made a Coachella debut and other US dates this year, Banks has just sold out UK dates including KOKO and O2 Forum Kentish Town. But don’t fear if you haven’t managed to get a ticket for either of these two shows, as Banks will soon be announcing some additional UK tour dates.
Pre-order Village here, as well, if you like.
