Melbourne-based seven-piece rockers King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have shared news of their forthcoming thrash metal album: Infest The Rats’ Nest is out 16 August.

The release lands merely six months after their deep electro and blues-rock boogie Fishing For Fishes. It’s also their 15th album in seven years.

And the new album is set to be their heaviest yet.

Taking a light-hearted approach to the music business the band’s press release for this record states:

“The planet is in trouble. Dire trouble. But fear not: Melbourne seven-piece KingGizzard & The Lizard Wizard return to save us all, this time armed only with blast beats, an arsenal of well-oiled guitars that are locked and loaded, and a desire to melt faces clean off.”

To their credit, their reference points in metal are solid. They cite the mid-late 80s Metallica and Slayer as well as lesser known Exodus, Kreator and Overkill.

Such ability to draw on the best stems from the genre never being far away – there are plenty of heavy psychedelic wig-outs in their back catalogue.

And the love of the genre runs deep. According to the press release, metal was the first genre frontman Stu King properly got into and he says the reason he didn’t start a band in the vein is because he found it too hard to play and played rock ‘n’ roll and garage instead.

14 albums and relentless world touring, however, have seen him finally hone those skills he set his sights on since school.

Stu and Joey Walker share all the guitar and bass parts, with (other drummer) Michael Cavanagh recording all the drums.

The album is coming out on Flightless Records (an ingenious label which states they started shipping King Gizzard albums in pizza boxes in 2012 in their bio) is their hardest and heaviest to date. And is followed by a UK tour.
