The idea for the alt-pop bop came from an episode of Dr Phil

After signing on the dotted line with tastemaker label Dirty Hit, latest signee Gia Ford has today shared the follow up to her well-received debut single ‘TURBO DREAMS’.

‘God, Cameras, Everyone’ is plucked from the Londoner’s Poster Boy mixtape, dropping in October. On the track, resounding piano chords flicker atop pounding drum beats, adorned by Ford’s rich and dreamy vocal. The result is a mesmerising, contemporary alt-pop track with a slight 80s tinge, and we’re totally into it.

Ford crafts her work with a modern, pop-minded context, with strong hooks and lyricism that touches on themes of modern technology in a world of constant and relentless surveillance.

Explaining the ideas behind the track, Ford says, "The premise of the song funnily enough came from an episode of Dr Phil. He warns a guest before they say anything, that they should have a good think about it because 'you’ll be telling this to God, cameras, and everyone here'. Me and my girlfriend kind of just looked at each other like ‘okay, that’s definitely a lyric'. I had it written in my book for a while, I was saving it for a good day. Simultaneously I was completely overplaying 'Funny How Time Flies' by Janet Jackson and was desperate to write something inspired by that; I ended up writing a classic love song with the God Cameras hook - which then became, together, a song about being in love with our phones, falling into the trap of surveillance. But the most important part is that it’s the love child of Dr Phil and Janet Jackson!”

Poster Boy will be released via Dirty Hit in October.
