More about:

Some mindblowing new shoegaze for you today with the first listen of 'Unwanted' by Folian. The howling cut is a five-plus minute taste of the Portland artist's forthcoming debut album Blue Mirror.

Blowing with a howling wind and ghostly vocals characteristic, 'Unwanted' adds drone-like distortions to electric guitars for a transcendent, full-body listen. Hear the new single on Gigwise first:

The new track showcases the work of Folian brainchild David Fylstra, who lives and works in Portland, where he collaborates with several other local artists such as The Stargazer Lilies and Bible Black Tyrant.

On 'Unwanted', and the further eight tracks on the forthcoming Blue Mirror LP, Fylstra sculpts an all-encompassing sound that feels like standing on a Gothic mountainside in the freezing cold wind.

Of the beautiful new sounds, Fylstra told us: "This speaks to the confusion of how something so safe and familiar has transformed over time into something you can no longer make sense of. It deals with the consequences of self-pity, and the frustration of failing to understand a situation. How did we end up here?"

Similar themes will continue in the full-length album, which will be available from 31 January 2020 via Fylstra's own label Anima Recordings. Expect more delicate shoegaze, wombing drone and catchy noise rock then.

Also catch Folian on tour in Oregon, California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Indiana this November.
