More about:

The world is split between artists who are pushing their albums back because of lockdown, and those who are pulling them forwards. Both positions are understandable, but we're delighted to say that Laura Marling falls in the latter camp. She unveiled a new single today in 'Held Down', with a whole album coming on Friday (10 April).

Song For Our Daughter is the singer-songwriter's seventh solo album, and it's had its release date pulled forwards due to "all our circumstances."

'Held Down', the four-minute first taste of the full LP, is a dreamy, billowing masterpiece with nonchalant, confessional vocal delivery and otherworldly harmonies.

Laura Marling announced the new album and gifted us with the new single today along with a statement on the reasons behind her decision:

"It’s strange to watch the facade of our daily lives dissolve away, leaving only the essentials; those we love and our worry for them. An album, stripped of everything that modernity and ownership does to it, is essentially a piece of me, and I’d like for you to have it" she said.

Laura Marling is out this Friday 10 April via Chrysalis/Partisan.
