More about: Matt Berninger
The National's Matt Berninger has shared a follow-up to recent single 'Serpentine Prison'. 'Distant Axis' is his next statement, taken from October's album which shares its name with the project's lead single.
Another work resulting from sessions with Booker T. Jones, 'Distant Axis' shares sonic ties with 'Serpentine Prison' and indeed, the works of The National. Like its predecessors, the new cut is a delicate yet complex composition comprised of many fragile layers.
The accompanying video is a calming, hopeful affair, directed by Berninger and his brother alongside Chris Sgroi.
The cut came from a demo sent by Walter Martin of The Walkmen: "‘Distant Axis’ started from a sketch Walt sent me named ‘Savannah.’ I think it’s about falling out of touch with someone or something you once thought would be there forever.”
'Distant Axis' follows May's "considered and heart-swelling" 'Serpentine Prison'.
Serpentine Prison arrives 2 October via Concord.
