Arlo Parks should expect a considerable uplift in sales of her debut album Collapsed in Sunbeams this morning. The 21-year-old last night won the prestigious Hyundai Mercury Prize from a pool of impressive recent releases. She joins a long line of British and Irish excellence by taking home the coveted prize.

Few were surprised to hear the singer's name called by Annie Mac as the winner was announced: reception in the crowd of industry people and guests was noticably amplified every time Collapsed in Sunbeams was called during the course of the evening.

Arlo Parks becomes the thirtieth recipient of the award—and the first to be born in the 21st century.

She faced off the following albums to achieve the win:

BERWYN - DEMOTAPE/VEGA
Black Country, New Road - For the First Time
Celeste - Not Your Muse
Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders & The London Symphony Orchestra - Promises
Ghetts - Conflict of Interest
Hannah Peel - Fir Wave
