More about: Miley Cyrus
When you’ve been well known for a long time, it can be difficult to release music that continues to pique the interest of listeners. This hasn’t been much of an issue for Miley Cyrus though, as with every project her sound has developed along with her style, tone and delivery. Her constant evolution is highlighted on her new single ‘Flowers’, which is a lot more funk-driven than previous projects and absolutely delivers.

It starts steadily enough, Miley’s incredibly recognisable voice chiming in and sounding fantastic. It’s easy to get on board with and enticing, before becoming incredibly disco driven at the chorus. As Miley proclaims “I can buy myself flowers” we hear a funky bassline and killer drums that don’t leave the listener with much else to do other than bust a move. Those moves are going to be instilled with confidence as well, given the theme of the song is self-love and acceptance.
Miley comes to the realisation during the tune that she can love herself better than anyone else can. She can buy herself gifts and create memories on her own accord that she will cherish forever. The song truly is one of confidence and it resonates in her performance and the way it is perceived by the listener.
The track is repetitive, a standard verse chorus verse chorus layout, but it does allow itself to build. Gentle synth is added the second time around and the track becomes more layered and varied throughout. That being said, as it fades out, it does feel like it doesn’t build as much as it could do. It’s a good song and one for party playlists but it is lacking in the big finish that it seems to tease.
The single comes out ahead of Miley’s eight studio album ‘Endless Summer Vacation,’ which is set for release in March.
