Wyclef Jean has called on the world to act and help his home nation of Haiti after it was hit by a massive earthquake yesterday.
Immediately after hearing about the devastating quake, which measured 7.3 on the Richter scale, The Fugees star sent out a series of tweets calling for action.
Shortly after hearing about the news, he tweeted: “what just came through my texs is they R a lot that have died so far from the earthquake n haiti! I will have info on how we can help soon.”
Followed by: “Text YELE right now to 501 501 to donate 5 dollars toward relief in Haiti.”
Realising the scale of the disaster, Jean later confirmed that he is on his way to Haiti.
“Am on my way to the D R to get to haiti. Please urge you council men governors to etcc we need a state of emergency for haiti,” he tweeted.
Some are predicting that thousands of people may have lost their lives in the Haiti earthquake while tens of thousands of homes have been destroyed.
Born in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti in 1972, Jean has been active in his support of his native country and created the foundation Yéle Haiti which provides humanitarian support for the action.
