Florence & The Machine's debut album 'Lungs' has climbed to number one in the UK album chart - 28 weeks after it was first released.

The Mercury Prize nominated record initially peaked at number two in the charts back in July 2009 and was only held off the top spot by the then recently deceased Michael Jackson.

Now, thanks to her songs 'You've Got The Love' and 'Dog Days Are Over' being used ubiquitously on TV shows and adverts, 'Lungs' has been propelled to the top spot.

Last week's number one, Paolo Nutini's 'Sunny Side Up', slipped down a place to two, while what was being billed as Florence's main competitor, Vampire Weekend's 'Contra', only debuted at three.

You Me At Six are the highest new entry at five with their second album 'Hold Me Down', while Delphic impressively entered at eighth spot with 'Acolyte'.

Martin Talbot, Managing Director of the Official Charts Company, said: “It shows how so much of the new talent which emerged last year is here for the long term and if Delphic’s chart debut is anything to go by, 2010 promises to be equally exciting.”

Over on the singles chart, Iyaz's 'Replay' is at number one for a second week and Plan B's 'Stay Too Long' is the highest new entry at nine.

New Channel 4/E4 series Glee has made its mark on the top ten with the cast's version of Journey's soft rock classic 'Don't Stop Believin' at five and the original track at six.

The album chart top ten is as follows:

1. Florence & The Machine – 'Lungs'
2. Paolo Nutini – 'Sunny Side Up'
3. Vampire Weekend – 'Contra'
4. Lady Gaga – 'The Fame'
5. You Me At Six – 'Hold Me Down'
6. Andre Rieu – 'Forever Vienna'
7. Alicia Keys – 'The Elements Of Freedom'
8. Delphic – 'Acolyte'
9. Mumford & Sons – 'Sigh No More'
10. Pixie Lott – 'Turn It Up'
