Prince Sued 1.7m Euros Over Cancelled Irish Gig

Prince has been sued for £1.5million by a promotion company over the cancellation of a concert in Dublin two years ago.

MCD claim they are owed compensation after the singer backed out of the scheduled performance at Croke Park in June 2008 at the last minute.

A High Court action against Prince heard how the singer's agent, William Morris Endeavour Entertainment, had agreed to the gig in February 2008.

More than 55,000 tickets then went one sale for the show, which was billed as Prince's last ever performance in Ireland.

The promoter also paid half of the singer's $3million appearance fee to the agency, as well as a fee for the use of the venue.

However, on June 6 – just one week before the concert – MCD announced that it had been cancelled “due to reasons beyond the control of Prince and MCD Productions”.

William Morris have claimed the cancellation was out of their control, reports the BBC.

The judge overseeing the case at Dublin's Commercial Court has been asked to decide who is liable to compensate MCD – Prince or his agent.
