Jay-Z and Alicia Keys have scrapped plans to record a song for this summer's World Cup – because they don't know enough about football.

The pair, who released the recent single 'Empire State Of Mind', had considered recording a track for the football tournament in South Africa.

But Keys said their lack of knowledge about the sport had stopped them from moving forward with the idea.

"If we did a record about soccer it would be obvious we didn't know much more about the sport than who David Beckham is,” she told The Sun.

As previously reported on Gigwise, Keys is among the artists set to perform at a concert to mark the start of this summer's football World Cup.

John Legend, Shakira and The Parlotones will also perform at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg on June 10.

The 19th FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11 - July 11 and will mark the first time that the tournament has been hosted by an African nation.
