Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin are to be inducted into the Apollo Theatre's hall of fame.

Franklin is expected to attend a ceremony at the famous New York landmark in June.

Jackson, who died last June, first appeared at the venue as a member of the Jackson 5 in 1967, when the brothers won the theatre's Amateur Night contest.

Fans also flocked to the Apollo last summer to hold a vigil  in the wake of the star's sudden death.

Previous inductees into the hall of fame include James Brown and Smokey Robinson.

  • They couldn't pick anyone more deserving than Michael Jackson. I'm happy that he's being honoured. I'm also excited to see "Gone Too Soon" this June. The movie should be amazing.
