Jazz music legend Herb Ellis, who played alongside the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, has died at the age of 88, his family have confirmed.
The guitarist passed away at his home in Los Angeles on Sunday following complications from Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Texas in 1921, Ellis began his career alongside Jimmy Dorsey in the Soft Winds.
Over six decades, he also teamed up with the Oscar Peterson Trio, before recording and touring independently with Fitzgerald.
Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow said told the AP news agency: "The jazz world has lost a great musician, and we extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and all who enjoyed his work."
Ellis is survived by his wife, Patti, two children and three grandchildren.
