Big Star bassist Andy Hummel, one of the group's founding members, has died at the age of 59.
Hummel passed award at his home in Fort Worth, Texas following a battle with cancer.
Big Star drummer Jody Stephens, who is now the band's only surviving member, told Commercial Accalim that the bassist was “an inspiration”.
“I’d known Andy since the 7th grade. What an impact he had on my life. He will be sorely missed,” he added.
Hummel was born in Penn and raised in Midtown, Hummel. His funeral is due to take place today (July 21).
The bassist's death comes just months after Big Star's singer Alex Chilton died. He was also 59.
