US duo make music to loose yourself to...

Your Favourite New Band: Bikini

It's a well-known fact that no band that named themselves after an item of clothing have ever enjoyed success. Remember Socks, that disco-pop group from Manchester? Or The Bow-Ties, whose pioneering afro-beat Krautrock shaped a whole generation? No, precisely.

That's because it takes a brave band to name themselves after an item of clothing – especially something like the bikini. But that's exactly name Nigel Diamond and Olivier Bonnard have chosen to unleash their majestic beats and floating electronic melodies with. You only have to listen to a song like 'American Mourning', for example, with its throbbing bass beat, or '1234', to realise these two take their music very seriously.

Both come armed with impressive credentials as well. While Diamond originates from Miami, Bonnard was classically trained at the Royal Conservatory. They met at the Glen-Lyon Norfolk Boarding School, a school chosen for its musical program affiliated with the Royal Conservatory of Music, and where Diamond was sent down from after he was caught selling acid to his classmates.

After leaving, the pair began laying the foundations for what has since become Bikini, who, ironically, create the kind of ethereal electronica that will leave you half convinced Diamond sold you a tab as well.

You can find out more about the duo at myspace.com/bikinii and watch the video for 'Acheerlaeder' below. The track will appear on Bikini's forthcoming debut EP 'RIPJDS'.
