Carl Barat: Libertines Comeback Gig Felt 'Overpowering'

Carl Barat has said it was “overpowering” and “emotional” performing again with The Libertines.

Barat, Pete Doherty, Gary Powell and John Hassall played their first public gig in six years at The Forum in London last night (August 25).

Fans have praised the group's 22-song set, which spanned their entire career.

In an interview with BBC Newsbeat, Barat admitted that the four band members felt nervous going into the show.

"It was quite overpowering. There was a lot of emotions - initially fear was the biggest one. It was emotional,” he said.

"In my head Libertines has always been sweat and beer flying and cigarette smoke and flashing lights. It felt quite sort of bare. We had to sing for our supper to an extent.”

Meanwhile, Barat also hinted that the reunion could lead to new material.

"If this works out then I guess we'll all hear the call,” he said. “It'll happen if it's going to happen."
