BBC Electric Proms Axed Following Cuts

The BBC has axed its Electric Proms as part of cost-cutting measures, it's been announced.

The gigs began in 2006 and have featured performances from the likes of Oasis and Sir Paul McCartney.

BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music controller Bob Shennan said the station had to consider how to deliver “high-quality live music programming” while adopting “continuing efficiency savings”.

He added: "I feel that Radio 2 can achieve the same impact of the Electric Proms in an alternative, more cost-effective way."

The announcement comes just days after the BBC said it would be cutting around 1000 jobs across the corporation.

  • i feel that Radio 2 can achieve the same impact of the Electric Proms in an alternative, more cost-effective way = Bollox ! unless the Bands/artist were charging an absolute fortune in expenses then surely it did not cost that much to put on ? but maybe the stars really were saying no to the BBc request to do the gigs and the bbc were struggling to attract the big acts as recent years they have got more and more mor acts. this news is bad for music fans as they were great gigs in a great venue
