The BRIT Awards slumped to its lowest rating in five years, securing less viewers than Big Fat Gypsy Weddings.
The ceremony, broadcast on ITV1, had an average of 4.8m viewers, while the Channel 4 show earned an average of 6.5million.
In 2010, the BRIT Awards attracted an average audience of 5.6m.
This year's ceremony took place for the first time at the O2 Arena in London and was hosted by Gavin & Stacey star James Corden.
Tinie Tempah was the big British winner, taking home two awards, while Montreal-based Arcade Fire won the biggest international prizes.
Arcade Fire, Take That, Rihanna, Plan B, Cee Lo Green and Mumford and Sons were among this year's performers.
