Sales of PJ Harvey's 'Let England Shake' have rocketed by over 1000% following her win at last night's (September 6) Mercury Prize in London.

The singer is the first artist to win the award for a second time – her first win came exactly ten years ago.

Online retailer Amazon.co.uk told Gigwise that it saw an also instant 1190% boost in sales of 'Let England Shake' after the announcement was made shortly before 10.30pm (BST).

It is currently sitting at number two in the music chart behind fellow nominee Adele's '21'.

PJ Harvey collects the Mercury Prize in London for a second time.

Paul Firth, head of music buying at Amazon UK, told Gigwise: “It’s a great achievement in a year which has seen so many strong releases including the likes of Tinie Tempah and Adele whose albums have been massive sellers over the last 12 months.

“The Mercury Music Prize is an important award for any artist, new or established, and always has an immediate effect on sales.

“It will be interesting to see whether PJ Harvey will surpass Adele at the very top of the charts over the coming days.”
As previously reported on Gigwise, Harvey appeared emotional as she was presented with the prize in London.

“First of all I’d like to say thank you very much for this award and thank you for recognition of my work on this album,” she said.
