Manchester Named As Having The UK's Best Live Music Scene

Manchester has been voted as having the UK's best live music scene.

The northern city came out top in a recent poll conducted by music copyright collection organisation PRS For Music.

The poll asked 3,000 participants, "Do you have enough local gigs in your area?". 77 per cent of Manchester locals who took part answered "yes''.

“Local live music gigs are a great way to bring communities together and for people to discover local talent. Manchester has always been a hot contender as music capital of the UK, but we also thoroughly encourage venues in the surrounding areas, such as Derbyshire, to seek local talent and host more live gigs,” said PRS for Music spokesman Barney Hooper.

Newcastle was close behind with Nottingham in third place.

  • They asked people in Manchester whether they have a godd music scene? anyone who has met a person from Mnachester will know how they always bang on about their city, even though it is a dreary depressing poohole.

  • Depressing?? Wow... writing this currently from my crappy town in the East Midlands I can honestly (and without bias since I do not live there) say Manchester is amazing and the shows are so special. Everyone is so much more friendly and open than here and that becomes really important at shows, there's almost a community feel. Honesty there can't be a more exciting city in the UK to visit and for music scene, it definitely wins (the only other place that comes close would be Leeds)
