PJ Harvey Now Favourite To Win Mercury Prize 2011

PJ Harvey is now the runaway favourite to win this year's Mercury Prize following keen interest from punters.

The musician's album 'Let England Shake' was one of twelve shortlisted for the award at an event in London yesterday (July 19).

Bookmakers William Hill originally had Harvey as the 6/1 joint favourite with Adele, but her odds have now been slashed to 2/1.

“We originally offered 4/1 for PJ Harvey but that price barely lasted 2 hours as we were knocked over by an early rush of money for her to win,” Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly told Gigwise.

“She has form in this competition and it appears we slightly underestimated how popular this album has been.”

Adele is still 6/1, joined now by Anna Calvi's self-titled debut. You can see the full revised odds below.

The winner of this year's Mercury Prize will be announced during a ceremony in London in September.

Mercury Prize 2011 - Odds:

2/1 PJ Harvey; 6/1 Adele; 6/1 Anna Calvi; 13/2 James Blake; 7/1 Metronomy; 10/1 Ghostpoet; 14/1 Everything Everything; 14/1 Katy B; 16/1 Tinie Tempah; 16/1 King Creosote & Jon Hopkins; 20/1 Elbow; 25/1 Gwilym Simcock
