Rihanna is set to join the X Factor USA as a judge, it has been reported.

The singer will join LA Reid at the houses stage of the competition, reports TMZ. Mariah Carey has also been confirmed to join Simon Cowell as a guest judge.

Earlier this year Cheryl Cole, who was set to appear as a judge on the US version of the X Factor was replaced by Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger.

The Girls Aloud star was sacked from the programme reportedly amid concerns from US TV bosses over her Newcastle accent.

Simon Cowell is one of the other X Factor judges along with Paula Abdul and LA Reid. The programme started last month.
