Ministry Of Sound's superclub in London has been saved from possible closure.
The venue's future had been cast into doubt over plans to build a development of luxury flats near its home on Gaunt Street, London.
There were concerns that if the building work went ahead residents could submit noise complaints against the club, which would ultimately lead to its closure.
The club delivered a 25,000-strong petition to the local council that had been endorsed by a series of big name DJs, including Judge Jules and Armin van Buuren, and rapper Example.
Today (October 12), it was revealed that Southwark Council's Planning Committee had voted overwhelming to reject an application for planning permission for Eileen House.
Ministry Of Sound's CEO Lohan Presencer said: "A huge thank you to the 25,000 plus people who signed the petition. Last night the Planning Committee showed why local democracy matters to this country.
“We are incredibly pleased that committee members have applied proper scrutiny to all the aspects of the application and its relation to planning policy.
“Members have arrived at the correct decision and now is the time for all concerned to come together to find a positive vision for the regeneration of the Elephant and Castle. Ministry of Sound wants to play a key part in this.”
He added that he was pleased that the 200 jobs of those employed by the club had been saved.
