Technical award for late Apple giant...

December 22, 2011 by Alex Winehouse

Steve Jobs is to be honoured with a posthumous technical Grammy award at next year's ceremony, it has been announced.

The Apple founder, who revolutionised the music industry through his iTunes program, passed away after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer aged 56 in October.

His award is part of the Trustees Award category, with other recipients being composer and musician Dave Bartholomew and recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder.

After Jobs' passing, friends and competitors sent their tributes, with Bill Gates, a long time adversary at Microsoft, saying: "Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives."

The award will be handed out on February 11, 2012, a day before the full ceremony.
