Adele: Etta James Was The Ultimate Original

Adele has paid her respects to late singer Etta James.

The 'At Last' singer passed away on Friday (January 20) following an ongoing battle with leukaemia since 2010.

Speaking about Etta, Adele wrote on her official blog: "What a lady Etta James was. She was the ultimate original.

"Her voice was breathtaking and her songs are reflections we all recognise in some way or another. It's an honour every time I hear her voice.

"I saw her at BB Kings in New York a few years ago, and it was something I will remember forever. Thank you to Etta James. And I send all my love to her family and friends xxxx."

Over the weekend other musicians paid their respects to the legendary singer, including Kings Of Leon's Nathan Followill who wrote over Twitter:

RIP Etta James. One of the greatest voices of all time. Thanks for the many romantic moments your music created.

Lady Gaga posted to fans: Tonight I will have one whole quart of brandy for Etta.

While, Beyonce - who portrayed the 'At Last' singer in 2008 film Cadillac Records - posted her own message on her website:

"This is a huge loss. Etta James was one of the greatest vocalists of our time," she wrote. "I am so fortunate to have met such a queen. Her musical contributions will last a lifetime.

"Playing Etta James taught me so much about myself, and singing her music inspired me to be a stronger artist. When she effortlessly opened her mouth, you could hear her pain and triumph.

"Her deeply emotional way of delivering a song told her story with no filter. She was fearless, and had guts. She will be missed."
