Bands performing at the Olympics opening and closing ceremonies are to be forced to mime their performances, with most of the music at the events to be pre-recorded.
Both Coldplay and The Rolling Stones have been rumoured as performers at the event, and will surely disappoint fans if they perform to a backing track. The details were revealed in an interview with a spokesperson from The Musicians' Union in The Times newspaper.
"Due to the complexity involved, it's just not possible for the music in all the shows to be live," said the spokesperson. "There will be live musical elements but many of the songs will be recorded in advance. This is standard practice for an event of this scale."
The creative director of the closing ceremony, Kim Gavin, previously claimed "The intention isn't to go out there and do a mime show.".
