Independent record shop chart launches in UK

An official chart of albums sold in independent record shops in the UK will be launched in conjunction with this years Record Store Day, it has been confirmed.

Only physical album sales will be counted in the new run-down, which will be revealed at 7pm every Sunday just like the Official Singles and Albums Charts.

For one week only, however, Steve Lamacq will run down the new chart on his 6Music show on Friday afternoon. (April 20).

"Independent record shops are more important than ever in helping introduce music fans to new, interesting music," said Martin Talbot, managing direction of the Official Charts Company in a statement.
