After Barack Obama’s announcement during his re-election campaign stating that he was pro-gay marriage, celebrities and music stars have showed their support on Twitter.

The President of the United States said this week: "I believe that same-sex couples should be allowed to marry. What I've come to realize is that for loving, same-sex couples, the denial of marriage equality means that, in their eyes and the eyes of their children, they are still considered less than full citizens."

Adam Levine tweeted: ‘thank you @BarackObama for reminding us all that true leadership is not dead.

Whilst Justin Timberlake tweeted, ‘@BarackObama inspires me once again. True leadership is when you are willing to risk your power and voice so that ALL of ours can be heard’.

Other huge names in the music industry, such as Yeasayer, Cyndi Lauper, Janelle Monae and Alicia Keyshave also shown their support for the President and gay marriage rights.
