Controversial rapper Eminem has revealed he almost quit rapping after a disastrous first performance.

Eminem describes his stage debut as 'so f**king traumatic' that he gave his music career second thoughts. He has since gone on to become one of the biggest hip hop stars in the world.

"The first time I rapped in front of actual people that mattered, in a club, I got booed. And it was very traumatic for me," he says, reports The List. "I just remember it being so fucking traumatic, and I think I went home and I was like, man, I quit."

He also reveals that he was determined to overcome his experience, and found the strength to get back on stage.

"And you know a week later, a day later, an hour later I got the urge, and I was like, I gotta get up, I gotta do it again," he added.

Earlier this week, Eminem became the first music star to reach 60 million fans on Facebook, overtaking the likes of Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber to take the social networking crown. But while his fanbase is flourishing, his movie career is not - with his boxing movie Southpaw put on hold earlier this year after failing to gain funding for the project.
