The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bruno Mars blew people away at the Super Bowl on Sunday (2 February), however that glory may be short lived after it was revealed Flea's guitar was not plugged in...
The revelation came from various sources who were tuned into the show, noticing that bassist Flea's bass wasn't plugged in during the performance. Unfortunately there was also the absence of a wire as well as a wireless pack plugged into the infamous bassist - begging the question where were the sounds of his bass coming from?
Twitter was instantly set on fire by various musicians who pointed out that Flea was playing a rather intricate game of air guitar. Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid tweeted: “That guitar is plugged into NOTHING,” as the band took the stage with Mars to perform 'Give It Away.' Joe Bonamassa also expressed his distaste, tweeting that they could at least have tried to fake it a little better.
Flea... I mean we all know, but for god's sake at least try to humor the children. #unpluggedlive pic.twitter.com/ferJuOQpkP

It does look especially bad, particularly next to Bruno Mars who put on an undeniably live performance and silenced the majority of critics. Sundays performance was one of the most well recieved in recent memory with viewers praising Mars and the Chili Peppers.
Big performances like this are always brought into question with various 'unplugged' scandals taking place over the last few years. Disclosure landed in hot water after performing with the mixer plug on the floor at the Summertime Ball, Beyonce is frequently accused of lip syncing and there are numerous photos of David Guetta and Justice playing with the faders down.
