A woman has been killed at Burning Man Festival after tragically falling under a moving bus.

The legendary festival, which takes place in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada operates a vehicle-less policy on site, meaning that visitors have to leave their cars and take a bus to get around the site, which is where the incident took place on Wednesday (27 August).

USA Today have named the victim as Alicia Louise Cipicchio, a 29-year-old art gallery owner from Jackson, Wyoming.

This fatality is the first at the festival in seven years, when a person fell under a trailer during the week long event.

Burning Man co-founder Marian Goodell offered her condolences to the victim’s family, saying “This is a terrible accident, Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and campmates."

"Black Rock Rangers and Emergency Services Department staff are providing support to those affected.”

Burning Man is a week long event that takes place in the middle of the Nevada desert, operating on a gift and barter based economy rather than cash.

This year's event is still on until 1 September, with the 2014 theme being 'Caravanery'.
