U2's The Edge has revealed the extent of Bono's injuries he suffered from his bike accident in Central Park, ruling him out of performing in 2014.

"He's doing OK," the Edge told KROQ (via Rolling Stone) although he suffered a series of injuries including a shattered left elbow. "He actually showed us an X-Ray a couple of days later, and it looked like a miniature of the Eiffel Tower was in his elbow," explained the guitarist.

Rather than the seemingly minor 'cycling spill in Central Park' that the band originally talked of, it now appears Bono had to have a long road to recovery. The Edge revealed "the most vulnerable was actually his upper back, the scapula, because they couldn't put any plates in there or they decided not to do surgery."

The Edge explained the U2 frontman had been "doing physio to keep the joints active twice a day" in Dublin, and he "basically can't move for the next couple of months". Thankfully Bono had taken precautions against such an acccident occuring. "We're kind of lucky he was wearing a helmet so he didn't actually break Central Park," The Edge explained. "But he's made of tough stuff, and he's bouncing back."

Thanks to this setback Bono was unable to perform at Times Square earlier this week, meaning that Bruce Springsteen and Chris Martin had to step in. "It was an amazing experience, but it did feel like we were cheating on Bono, I have to admit," the Edge. They have also had to cancel their forthcoming headline slot at KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas.

Bono is aiming to be well for next year's UK tour, which comprises residencies at London's O2 Arena and Glasgow's Hydro SSE Hydro Arena.

The tour, which is named the iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour (strange capitalisation compulsory), kicks off on 25 October in London.
